Raining Vampire Fish in Alaska

Whether you have heard or not about fish rain. Villagers in Thailand have said they have been surprised by an unusual rainfall of fish. Indeed, passersby have been held in awe as hundreds of fishes had flown to the banks of seashore and on the road. Reports have it that most of fishes were found dead. Whilst some people tried to save the fishes, others stood watching in amazement. It is on record that rainy season in Thailand varies from region to region. It sounds strange and hard to believe but it is true that fish rains happened in some part of the world.

A village in western Sri Lanka has been in awe of an unusual event — rainfall of small fish. The fish rain happened in a village in the district of Chilaw on Monday when villagers saw fish as small as 5 to 8cm falling on the roads and roofs, BBC reported. As Steve Cleaton, a forecaster at BBC Weather Centre, explains, “In the Sri Lankan storm, a tornado probably formed over land, drifted over river systems or coastal waters, and sucked up light fish that were lifted all the way into the base of the storm cloud. Villagers in western Sri Lanka were surprised and delighted on Monday when they experienced an unusual rainfall that included more than 50kg of fish. It is though the animals were lifted out of a nearby river and is not the first such incident in Sri Lanka

Specially tornado forms over land, drifts over river systems or coastal waters sucks up light fish all the way into the base of the storm could then through back on earth with rains. Scientists say that “fish rain” usually occurs when swirling whirlwinds over relatively shallow water develops into waterspouts and sucks in almost anything in the water including fish, eels and even frogs. The marine life can be carried long distances by buffeting clouds even when the waterspout stops spinning. Residents of Thailand were shocked and amused when fish rained down from the sky on Tuesday. Passersby were awestruck as hundreds of fish fell from the sky, all over the road and land. Another news – Over the last few weeks since May of 2015, Alaskans have reported finding non-glittery fish out of water: cold-blooded, blood-sucking monster fish have literally been falling from the sky, ostensibly swooping in on land-based prey. The creatures in question are actually arctic lampreys, parasitic fish that use several rows of grotesque teeth to latch onto other water-dwellers and suck their blood.
